Food Stop: Chinatown

We always go to this resto discovered by H's friends in Chinatown. Unfortunately, none of us speak nor read Chinese so we cannot tell you what the place is called. However, it's only a few steps from the Chinatown MRT, and take the Chinatown Point exit. The place had a huge red sign riddled with Chinese characters and it won't be hard to miss because the place is always packed with people! It is on the same side of the street as Bee Cheng Hiang, the chinese beef jerky, if that helps.

The food served at this place has nothing to do with its nondescript interiors. What it lacks in ambience is certainly made up for by its cheap, yet delicious dishes. It's nothing fancy! Also, most of the employees at the resto are locals and speak a bit of English. So it's just better to point at the menu when you order.

My personal fave is the Fried Chicken with dried Chili. Before you say NO to this, I urge you to give it a try. Don't be scared at the amount of chili you see because it's not THAT spicy. Just a tad bit, but very tolerable. This dish is made of bits of fried chicken that's super crunchy seasoned with paprika and/or cumin. It is sort of like bar chow and is best paired with a cold Tsing Tao beer. Yuummmm!

H's and Max's fave is this Spicy Beef Stew. This one was really good too! You can eat it by itself, pair it with rice or with a steamed bun (aka Man Tao). I honestly think this is a hangover cure. The spice will knock you back on your wits. Its soft beef meshes well with the flavor of the stew. Again, do not be scared of the amount of chili on this one. It is quite tolerable. H isn't big on spicy food but he's able to eat this one.

The resto has many other delicious food to offer, from their mouthwatering Xiao Long Bao (pork dumplings wrapped in a thin dumpling shell with broth in it), Pork spare ribs, Sauteed Spinach and Garlic, etc. If you happen to be in Chinatown, do try out this place and let us know what you think!
